An amazing day at Tattersalls

We still have four yearlings to sell next week but our October yearling draft couldn’t have got off to a better start than with the sale of our Oasis Dream colt for 750,000gns to Sheikh Mohammed Obaid on Tuesday.

Having bought him last year as a foal for 160,000gns, we were hopeful he’d sell at a profit but he completely exceeded our expectations with his amazing price tag. A number of major buyers were interested, including John Ferguson, who was the eventual under-bidder, and Charlie Gordon-Watson, who of course bought the dual Group 1 winner Shalaa from our draft last year. But it was Roger Varian, acting on behalf of the sheikh, who was the most determined, and we look forward to seeing him in Roger’s string next year. His sale set a new record for Jenny and her team as yearling vendors, and we’ll have to have an amazing touch ever to pass our overall sales record of 4 million guineas for Dancing Rain at Tattersalls’ December Sale of 2013. This week we offer colts by Holy Roman Emperor, Dutch Art and Lope De Vega in Book 2, followed by a really attractive daughter of Roderic O’Connor on the first day of Book 3. We had an extra boost to our pinhooking record from last year’s draft when Top Beak, a son of Lawman ex Tree Tops, won on his debut for Hughie Morrison at Windsor at odds of 25/1. He’s another exciting colt to follow during his three-year-old season for next year, along with the crown prince of this year’s juveniles, Shalaa.

As well as selling some yearlings next week, William and I will also be on the hunt for some to buy for various clients. It's going to be another long week but here's hoping for some more good results.
