Great start at Goffs UK

We were delighted to be able to take two really nice yearlings to the Goffs UK Premier Sale at Doncaster and sell them both to respected buyers.

On Tuesday, our Epaulette colt was bought as a breeze-up prospect by Norman Williamson for £48,000 and the following day we sold a Bated Breath filly to trainer Michael O’Callaghan for £90,000. This was a particularly shrewd spot of pinhooking by Tom Charlton, who bought the good-looking filly as a foal for just 13,500gns. We were delighted to be asked to consign her for Tom, his father Roger and brother Harry, and extra pleased to have returned a good result for them.

Jenny and Katy did the hard work at Donny while I stayed in Marlborough with our team at home who are busy preparing our draft for Tattersalls October. I love watching them progress day by day and at such a key stage of their prep it’s important to be able to pick up on every little detail. The extra bonus is it’s great exercise it be walking four yearlings per day!

We managed to get our work done in time for me to get to Newbury on Tuesday to see the second run of the Andrew Balding-trained Genetics, whom we bought at Arqana’s October Sale last year. I’m happy to say it was well worth the trip as he won nicely and looks like a colt with a bright future. It was extra special to see him win so early in his career as we bought him from Pierric Rouxel, whom we know well and has bred so many good horses for the Countess of Tarragon at Haras de Maulepaire.

Jenny’s now back at base and it’s full steam ahead for Tattersalls. The yearlings are coming along nicely and at this stage we couldn’t be happier. Before the October Sale I’ll be back on the sales beat with my buying boots on at one of my favourite yearling sales of the year – the Osarus September Sale.
